DevOps Associate - Digital Media News

We run a high-traffic, mobile-first news platform where "breaking news" means instant load spikes of 10x or 100x our baseline traffic. We’re looking for a DevOps Associate to build the resilient, automated infrastructure that keeps our APIs and frontends online—fast, reliably, and at scale. You will be responsible for ensuring that our deployment pipelines are bulletproof and our cloud environment is optimized for high-concurrency performance.

What You’ll Do

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Maintain and scale cloud resources using Terraform or Pulumi, ensuring environment parity across Staging and Production.
• Container Orchestration: Manage and tune Docker-based workloads on AWS ECS or EKS, focusing on fast task startup times and efficient resource allocation.
• Traffic Management: Configure and optimize AWS ALBs, CloudFront distributions, and WAF rules to handle massive traffic surges while filtering out malicious actors.
• CI/CD Automation: Own the deployment pipeline (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins), enabling developers to ship code multiple times a day with zero-downtime deployments (Blue/Green or Canary).
• Observability & Alerting: Build and maintain dashboards in Datadog, New Relic, or Prometheus/Grafana to monitor p95 latencies and error rates.
• Database & Cache Ops: Support the reliability of MongoDB Atlas and Redis clusters, ensuring automated backups, failover testing, and cost-efficient scaling.
• Incident Response: Participate in on-call rotations and lead Post-Mortems to turn system failures into long-term infrastructure improvements.

You’re a Fit If You

• Are Cloud-Native: You have a solid grasp of AWS (or GCP/Azure) services, specifically VPC networking, IAM, and managed compute.
• Understand Scaling Limits: You don't just "add more servers"—you understand connection pooling, load balancer warming, and the difference between CPU and I/O bottlenecks.
• Are a Linux Enthusiast: You’re comfortable at the command line, debugging network latencies, or inspecting container logs.
• Prioritize Automation: If you have to do it twice, you write a script for it (Bash, Python, or Go).
• Are Security-Conscious: You understand the principle of least privilege and how to manage secrets securely (Secrets Manager, Vault).

Bonus Points

• Experience with Load Testing at scale using tools like k6 or Locust to find the breaking point of our clusters.
• Knowledge of Edge Computing (Cloudflare Workers, Lambda@Edge) for handling traffic before it hits the origin.
• Familiarity with Service Mesh (Istio/Linkerd) for advanced traffic routing and observability.
• Experience managing high-volume Log Aggregation pipelines (ELK Stack, Loki).
